The town wall

The town wall

Since the early 14th century, the upper town was surrounded by a wall, which was designed with towers and gates. In the evenings, the powerful doors were locked, so that the inhabitants felt safe from backstreet rabble. Upon closer inspection of the town wall, it becomes apparent that it is not that strong and that the foundations are quite weak. This wall would not be of much use during a serious military siege, therefore during a war, the gates would be opened to approaching troops, allowing fate to take its cause in the hopes that soldiers would march on as soon as possible.
